Using ARENA Materials: Our Policy

Looking to use our materials for your own AI safety courses?

If you choose to do this, we ask that you adhere to our guidelines below.

How to use ARENA Materials:

We've designed a policy to support others’ learning while maintaining the quality and integrity of AI safety education. Here's how you can use our materials:

Our policies:

  • Self-study: You're welcome to use our materials for personal learning – you can find the ARENA curriculum here. We'd love to hear your feedback through our feedback form.

    Feel free to join our Slack community!

  • Request Permission: Before running a programme based on our materials, please complete this short form. We typically respond within 5 working days.

    Distinct branding: Clearly identify your programme as using ARENA materials rather than run by ARENA. This helps participants understand who they're learning with.

    Proper attribution: Credit ARENA or "Alignment Research Engineer Accelerator" as the source of materials in your communications.

    Non-commercial use: Our materials are shared to advance AI safety, not for profit. Don't resell our content or charge for access.

    Leaders of external AI safety programmes may find it useful to read this article, provided by the Finnish Alignment Engineering Bootcamp, on the preparation and work required to run an in-person bootcamp based on our materials.

  • Course materials including resource lists, exercises, and example solutions.

    Guidance on running effective upskilling programmes based on the ARENA materials (on demand).

    Connection to the broader AI safety education community through the ARENA Slack.

  • While we try our best to ensure the accuracy and relevancy of our course materials, they’re provided solely on an “as is” basis, without warranty of any kind. With this in mind, don’t hold us liable for errors in the material. Many linked resources belong to third parties and may require additional permissions for reuse.

  • “The Greendale Community College AI Society is excited to be hosting an AI alignment course this semester, based on the popular ARENA courses.

    We’ll be following their curriculum – see details here.”

    • “GCC AI Society is launching a round of the ARENA programme”.

    • “We’re running the ARENA programme in Greendale, Colorado”.

    • “Apply to ARENA”, and then linking to your version of the course.

    • “Run in collaboration with ARENA”, unless we’ve explicitly agreed this.

    • Issuing certificates for “completing the ARENA programme”.
